WILLOW AND TISSUE
I often use a technique were I make a willow frame and then layer wet-strength tissue paper over the frame. This is then strengthened with a bonding medium such as PVA. (For photographs showing these methods see the willow masks page.) This technique is extremely versatile and can also be used to make wonderful animal shapes, and be robust enough to make elegant household items such as screens and lighting. See also the willow masks page.
LOWRY HOUSES
These large houses made from willow and tissue-paper were for a performance inspired by L.S. Lowry. They were created with the school children of Elmham C of E Primary School, Norfolk.
This project demonstrates one of the advantages to using willow and paper which is that, although the structures can be very large, they are also very lightweight. Designs and patterns can also be painted on them giving them a luminous colour when exposed to the sun.
