MOSAICS

mosaic floor with animal designs

Mosaics are a very old and traditional method of decorating architecture usually on a wall or floor. They are made by inlaying small pieces of marble, glass or other materials. Mosaic was commonly used by the Romans for their villas and by the Byzantines. It was revived in the 13th century by the Italians chiefly for the decoration of churches.

Decorative Roman patterns and animals are a very popular and versatile motif.

WALL MOSAIC FOR OMNIA

Omnia are a mental health charity based in Norwich. We made this mosaic wall (above) over ten two hour sessions.

These fish and lizard are details of other animal-based mosaics I did with the Referral Unit at Swaffham. Below them are examples of the wonderful geometric patterns that can be made.
